Going postal

I started a list of things to see … London: the girl and dolphin statue by Tower Bridge, London. I'm obsessed with it. Paris: the Eiffel, of course. Rome: dancing in the Trevi fountain, La Dolce Vita!

It only took two hours and two trips to the post office, but Beau finally applied for her passport today. She grumbled about her photo since 1) the postman insisted she NOT smile — apparently, smiling changes your features, 2) the minute Beau stepped back and doubled her chin, the photo was taken, and 3) her ears have to show. When I asked about this, he said ears show the size of your head. Good to know. I thought her photo was fine (except the $15 Polaroid charge was ridiculous) but Beau was not happy about the MUG shot she has to live with for the next ten years. Our first post office trip was almost complete until Beau announced that she didn’t have her driver’s license with her. I brought her papers, birth certificate, AND my documents … how could she forget one, important card? I’m clearly hoping that this is not a sign for what our adventure will be like next month: catty arguments about mundane albeit important details. Wish us luck! ;)

  1. I just got a new passport a couple weeks ago since my old one is no longer valid with my new married name. I just had my photo taken at Walgreens but they were much pickier about how I was standing/what I looked like than I remembered from the first time.

  2. Did you smile? Mine has me smiling like a Cheshire cat but it was taken 9 years ago before all these new rules. I should have taken her photo at work! I can't wait to get new stamps on my passport. :D
