Red Red Wine

I am not a wine connoisseur. I’ve been to a few wine tastings and festivals to know how to hold the glass properly, smell and taste, and use words like tannic, oenophile, and sommelier. After a few small glasses, my taste palette can not be cleansed and they all begin to taste the same for me — which is how this tasting at Top Ten Wines went. However, I know what I like and if it goes with delicious food, then I’m all in.

I’m intrigued by well-designed labels. True confession.
A favorite red: 2009 Chateau Caladroy Les Schistes, Cotes du Roussillon from France ($18). This wine goes well with braised meat and stew. Ummm.
A favorite sparkling wine: 2010 Elio Perrone Sourgal Moscato d’Asti from Italy ($18). I’m not a huge fan of overly sweet wine but this one was delicious and smelled fantastic, like a bath. The ladies called it the “hot tub” wine. Enough said.
Not sure how these taste but can you resist the labels? Blue Eyed Boy and Gigglepot.
This wine made me think of Water for Elephants. I’m random, I know.
A good white wine: 2009 Kiralyudvar Furmint Sec from Hungary ($20). So good, they ran out much to Samae’s chagrin.
A lot of people liked Dashe, a 2009 red Zinfandel from California ($21). There’s an interesting story about the monkey riding the whale {more graphics love}. I would tell you but total recall is impossible under the influence of wine. On a side note, the name Dashe makes me think of Demi and Ashton’s pet name for each other. Eeeek ... again, not an expert here. Let’s try some Gigglepot and call it a night. :)
