just breathe

I have been on a break. And by break I mean, I’ve actually had free weekends and weeknights to catch up, complete a few to-do-lists, relax and do (almost) nothing. It’s difficult for me to actually do nothing because I am the type to get anxious when I am idling. But it’s easy for me to overbook my schedule, so I’ve made a vow to set more time for myself – to find time to decompress and release the disquiet. Thus, my new passion – hot yoga at Sumits Hot Yoga.

Yoga is not new for me, but working out in a hot (100+ degrees), humid room for 1.5 hours is. And I decided to give myself a 2-week jumpstart challenge by going daily with only 1-2 days off (because let’s be real, I’m not crazy). I’m writing about this because it gives me motivation and makes me accountable. I will stick to this!

I am currently on day 4. The first two days were difficult, but somehow I managed to ease into it and not pass out. I’m not going to lie. This shiz takes effort. It’s not all calm zen, candles, deep breaths, easy breezy … but I know it can be, once I get to that state-of-mind. And even though I leave each class looking like a wet dog/hot mess, can I just say that my joints (particularly my tricky knees) are beginning to feel normal again. I feel focused and energized, and I actually look forward to the next hot session. It’s a good thing. Namaste.
