Last Of The Great Pretenders | Matt Nathanson

The Matty Nay bus was back and looking bigger, upgraded and loaded. This was #6 or maybe Lucky #7th time I have seen Matt Nathanson perform live (just click that Matt Nathanson Label tag below to read more). Since this is busy {work} season for me, it was a much needed respite.

I’m opening with this unplanned, classic video I took of MATTY NAY (hit that replay button a few times for fun). Classy. ;}

FUNtastic friend Jen and Ren (photo by RY RY Ryan) #mnselfielove

Jen was wearing plaid and I wore ankle boots with cuffed jeans, so there were a lot of hipster jokes ... then who should open the show? Mr. Hipster himself, JOSHUA RADIN. This guy is mister mellow and I like his music (it’s on my Pandora sleeping music list!) but I found it strange that he would open for Matt, mister let’s-have-a-GOOD-time-PARTY-GUY. And now, we all know about Josh’s ex:
 Joshua Radin: “I wrote this song after the only girl I’ve ever loved broke my heart. That heartache brought me 5 new albums. Best thing I got out of her.” ouch
Checking out the set list. Not on the list, but one of my favorite moments this evening was Matt’s rendition of Violent Femmes BLISTER IN THE SUN. The house was a-rocking!

You had me at STILL.

Dear Matt,
Thank you for reminding me why I LOVE watching you perform. Your endless energy, sense of humor, MUSIC, never disappoint. I will never tire of your Scrabble references, Blister In the Sun guitar-playing hands, and ever-changing HAIR. Way to rock the Bjorn Borg Do! Oh, to be the Girl in the Kinks Shirt — what a great story, and know you have a lot of superfans. Trust me, you missed the crazies behind us trying to jump to the front. Yes, that includes you, polka-dot girl. Can you say, cat fight? I hope you come back to CoMo again next year. Always a GOOD TIME. xoxo Ren
