How To Be An Artist #11
Make friends with freedom and uncertainty. I did just that when I met Kat and her friends, Rhonda and Marian. Kat and I worked together years ago, and she was getting ready to move and start a new job in Oregon. That’s a far cry from the small town of Macon, where she’s leaving. She was a bundle of energy and I was glad she asked me to come along and see her off. Marian is newly single and looking for a fresh start. I don’t doubt she’s going to bloom like that lotus drawing she kept showing us. Rhonda is a sister soul mate. We talked about things that shouldn’t be heard out loud, though I’m sure the waiter at bleu got an earful. I’m going to blame the absinthe. It’s not called “Death in the Afternoon” for no reason. Invented by Ernest Hemingway, it’s Absinthe and a flaming sugar cube drowned in champagne.

Giggle and grin
{via cameraphone © Ren Reiske}
Grinning. You will not hear about the 3 or 4 things that serendipitously occurred and were crossed off the bucket list, but I will tell you about a little find. Lyns and I ventured to Vault, a swanky speakeasy she had heard about. It is a very intimate, cool atmosphere with the usual red and black furnishings and matching ultra-hip patrons. Not-so-hip in my white jeans and black flip flops, I blended — time for a cocktail. Try saying that without giggling. Lyns ordered “The Fancy Pants Champagne Cocktail” and I had “Giggle Water.” How apropos. I’m a sucker for good packaging and creative naming of libations — so I was pleasantly surprised when the drinks lived up to their sassy titles. Giggle Water has Effen Raspberry (yes that's on the menu) vanilla vodka with fresh cinnamon, two dashes of bitters and a splash of both Sprite and Coke. It was refreshing. FRESH.
Vault was another stop during our impromptu evening, so I was hesitant to leave as we enjoyed our cocktails and relaxed setting. I will be back for another Giggle and possibly, gin.

Hey bartender
Uh-hmmm… someone’s packing HEAT!
You know that feeling when you go into a store and you see that cute puppy staring at you with those eyes and it’s like, Awww… take me home please? It was like that. :)
